Jacksonville Jaguars

The Browns were blown out by the Cowboys on Sunday and now they’re also dealing with an injury concern to one of their best offensive players.

According to multiple reporters on the scene, tight end David Njoku was spotted wearing a walking boot on his right foot after injuring his ankle during the game.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said in his postgame press conference that he didn’t have an immediate update on Njoku’s status. The team is planning to have Njoku undergo further testing on Monday.

Njoku had four catches for 44 yards before exiting the game with about 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

In 2023, Njoku caught 81 passes for 992 yards with six touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl berth.

The Dolphins looked out of sync for much of Sunday’s matchup with the Jaguars, as Jacksonville’s defense kept the offensive unit off balance.

But Miami was able to score 13 unanswered points in the second half to give the club a 20-17 victory.

On a day that began with receiver Tyreek Hill being detained after a traffic violation while on the way to Hard Rock Stadium, it was also Hill who had one of the game-changing plays in the third quarter.

The Jaguars were on their way to a 24-7 lead late in the third quarter but Jevon Holland had other plans. The safety punched the ball out of Travis Etienne’s arm when he was on the way to the goal line, with cornerback Kader Kohou recovering the loose ball in the end zone for a touchback.

On the next play, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa connected with Hill 28 yards down the field and the receiver used his speed to do the rest for an 80-yard touchdown.

While that made the score 17-14, the Dolphins firmly had the game’s energy on their side for the rest of the contest.

While kicker Jason Sanders sent one 42-yard field goal attempt wide left, Jacksonville could not sustain a drive to get in position to score. That led to a 37-yard field goal to tie it with 4:22 left.

Sanders was then able to hit a 52-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter to give the club the Week 1 victory.

Tagovailoa finished 22-of-37 for 338 yards with a touchdown. Hill had seven catches for 130 yards with his touchdown. Jaylen Waddle caught all five of his targets for 109 yards.

On the other side, Trevor Lawrence finished 12-of-21 for 162 yards with a touchdown. Tank Bigsby led the club with 73 yards rushing, averaging 6.1 yards per rush. Gabe Davis was the leading receiver with three catches for 62 yards.

The Dolphins have a quick turnaround, as they’ll host the Bills for Thursday Night Football in Week 2.

The Jaguars will host the Browns in Week 2.

The Jaguars were about to go up 24-7.

Instead, they now lead the Dolphins by just 17-14 with 2:08 left in the third quarter.

Jags running back Travis Etienne was on his way into the end zone when safety Jevon Holland punched the ball out of his arm. The ball ricocheted into the end zoneDolphins safety Jevon Holland punched the ball cornerback Kader Kohou recovering it in the paint for a touchback.

It didn’t take long for Miami to take advantage of the extra possession. Receiver Tyreek Hill — who was detained for a traffic violation while on the way to Sunday’s game — caught a pass 28 yards down the field and used his speed to go the rest of the way for an 80-yard touchdown.

The 14-point swing definitively put Miami back in the game as it enters its latter stages.

Hill now leads the Dolphins with six catches for 109 yards. Jaylen Waddle has caught four passes for 96 yards so far.

While Tua Tagovailoa has not quite been in sync with his receivers throughout the day, he is now 18-of-29 for 288 yards with a touchdown.

The Jaguars didn’t get off to a good start offensively, but they’ve been in control ever since to build a 17-7 lead over the Dolphins at halftime.

Running back Travis Etienne got the scoring started with a 1-yard touchdown run after Jalen Ramsey’s defensive pass interference penalty put the club just outside the goal line. Then in the second quarter, Lawrence hit rookie Brian Thomas Jr. for a 14-yard touchdown — the first score of his career.

That gave the Jaguars a 14-0 lead.

The Dolphins seemed out of sync offensively for much of the first half, failing on a pair of fourth-down attempts. But the club got things going on its final possession of the second quarter, with De’Von Achane punching it in from 1-yard out to get the Dolphins on the board.

With just over a minute left in the half, the Jaguars were able to get down the field to score a field goal as time expired, putting the club up by 10.

Lawrence is 9-of-14 passing for 125 yards with a touchdown. Thomas leads with four catches for 47 yards. Tank Bigsby has four carries for 31 yards while Etienne has been limited to 11 yards on seven carries.

Tagovailoa is 11-of-21 for 131 yards. He’s also rushed for 11 yards, a figure which leads the Dolphins. Achane leads with four catches for 60 yards. The Jags have limited Tyreek Hill — who was detained for a traffic violation before Sunday’s game — to four catches for 32 yards.

The Jaguars will have a chance to double up, as they’ll receive the second-half kickoff.

Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has made it to the end zone for the first time.

Thomas, the No. 23 overall pick out of LSU, caught a 14-yard pass in the back of the end zone for the first touchdown of his career, giving Jacksonville a 14-0 lead over Miami midway through the second quarter.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence found Thomas on third-and-11 after a delay of game penalty pushed Jacksonville back. Thomas caught the pass and got a pair of feet down in the back of the end zone for the score.

Thomas has caught all three of his targets so far for 29 yards. Despite starting poorly on his first drive, Lawrence is 6-of-9 passing for 82 yards with a touchdown.

The Jaguars’ first offensive drive of the season was a disaster.

But their second couldn’t have gone much better.

Jacksonville leads Miami 7-0 after Travis Etienne finished a six-play, 96-yard drive win a 1-yard touchdown run.

On the Jaguars’ first drive, quarterback Trevor Lawrence was sacked by new Dolphin Calais Campbell on the first play. Then Campbell blew up the second play for another tackle for loss. Lawrence was nearly intercepted on the third play as the pass sailed high over the middle.

But despite starting on their own 4-yard line after a solid Dolphins punt, the Jaguars started humming on their next possession.

Running back Tank Bigsby took a handoff 17 yards and followed that with an 8-yard run. Then new Jaguar Gabe Davis caught a 19-yard pass to push the ball further up the field.

But the biggest play was a defensive pass interference called on Dolphins defensive back Jalen Ramsey. Lawrence was looking for rookie Brian Thomas Jr. deep down the middle of the field. But Ramsey pulled Thomas down before the ball arrived, with the foul moving the ball all the way down to Miami’s 1-yard line.

Etienne punched it in from there, giving Jacksonville a touchdown lead.

The Dolphins had a great chance to score on their previous drive, as receiver Tyreek Hill was wide open down the field. But quarterback Tua Tagovailoa overshot the speedy wideout.

Word on Sunday morning was that Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey was going to try to play through the hamstring injury that kept him out of practice two days this week and it’s now official that he’ll be in the lineup.

Ramsey was listed as questionable to play after agreeing to a three-year contract extension this week, but he is not on the team’s inactive list for their home date against the Jaguars.

It remains unclear how much of a role Ramsey will play. There was talk of him playing a limited role and the Dolphins will be back in action against the Bills on Thursday night, so the team may have to manage his reps in order to keep him healthy enough to play in Week Two as well.

Running back Jaylen Wright, cornerback Ethan Bonner, linebacker Channing Tindall, linebacker Mo Kamara, offensive lineman Andrew Meyer, and wide receiver Malik Washington are inactive for Miami.

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was briefly detained by police and cited for reckless driving on his way into Hard Rock Stadium for Sunday’s home game against the Jaguars, but a statement from the team said that he’ll be available to play.

Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, who was on the scene before Hill was released by police, confirmed that Hill plans to be in the lineup for the Dolphins during an appearance on NFL Network.

“I think he’ll clear his mind, calm down and get through it,” Rosenhaus said.

Rosenhaus said Hill told him that he was just pulling into the stadium when he was stopped and “evidently” things went “off the rails” in his interaction with a police officer. Rosenhaus said “this shouldn’t happen to a player entering his own stadium” and that there will be further conversations about the sequence of events after the game.

“It’s unnecessary. There’s no reason Tyreek should have been treated that way. We’re gonna look into that after the game,” Rosenhaus said.

Hill will have an opportunity to address what happened after the game, although the fact that it’s an ongoing legal matter will likely limit any comments he or anyone else make in the immediate future.

Every week we bring you all the inactives from the 1 p.m. ET games in one post, constantly updated with the latest information.

Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s status for Sunday’s game has been closely watched all week because the wideout has reportedly been on the fence about playing without a contract extension in place. Chase warmed up on the field before the home game against New England on Sunday morning and he is active for the season opener.

That suggests Chase will play, but there have been a lot of twists and turns with the receiver since the start of training camp so we’ll see if he has his usual role. The Bengals will take as much as they can get with Tee Higgins out and the chance to start the year with a win on the line against the Patriots.

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was pulled over, detained and handcuffed by police while driving to today’s game against the Jaguars. Hill will still play today.

Hill was pulled over for speeding, got into a verbal altercation with the officer, was ordered out of his car and handcuffed, and then cited for reckless driving, according to ESPN.

“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police,” the Dolphins said in a statement. “He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”

ESPN also reported that Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was on the scene with Hill.

The situation is reminiscent of golfer Scottie Scheffler, who was arrested before playing in the PGA Championship in May after a police officer stopped him for a moving violation. In that case, Scheffler was able to play and later had the charges dropped. Hill will try to move past it in a hurry as well.
