  • NYM Center Fielder #6
This was a frustrating day for the Mets offense as they made tons of contact against Julian Aguiar and the Reds’ bullpen but struggled to sustain a rally. Marte’s sixth inning single provided their only run and the lead for a brief moment before the Reds answered back. Marte’s value has taken a hit of late as he’s been pushed down the Mets’ order with the emergence of Mark Vientos, only plays a few days a week, and gets pulled nearly every game for a defensive replacement.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #40
Severino was tremendous until he lost the Mets’ 1-0 lead on a bloop single from Noelvi Marte on his last pitch of the afternoon. Nevertheless, he seems to be getting better as the year goes on. He threw his hardest pitch of the year – a 99.5 MPH sinker – and leaned on his sweeper for four swings-and-misses and tons of weak contact. He also had a tense moment in the fifth inning when the Reds had runners on first and third with no one out and Severino struck out the next three hitters. He’s scheduled to face the Phillies on the road his next time out.
  • NYM Second Baseman #1
McNeil said he might return deep into the postseason, should that turn into a thing, but he’s done for the rest of September. Jose Iglesias will be the Mets’ regular second baseman the rest of the way, with Pablo Reyes serving as the backup.
  • NYM Left Fielder #29
The Mets decided they wanted a left-handed bat more than another infielder on their bench with Jeff McNeil down. Stewart has hit just .175/.326/.299 in 190 plate appearances this season, but it does seem like he’s been rather unlucky in the process. His exit velocity numbers aren’t much different than when he hit .244/.333/.506 last year, and his strikeout rate is actually well down (30% to 24%).
  • NYM Center Fielder #44
Bader broke a scoreless game in the sixth with a leadoff home run off Sam Moll for his only hit of the game. The 30-year-old outfielder is up to 11 homers while slashing .243/.288/.384 with 52 runs scored, 47 RBI, and 15 steals across 392 plate appearances.
  • NYM Designated Hitter #28
The Mets were held scoreless into the sixth before they brought all four of their runs across to score in the inning. J.D. Martinez came up in a big spot, bringing two runs in to score on a double to left field. The 37-year-old slugger is hitting .252/.334/.440 with 16 homers and 68 RBI across 444 plate appearances.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #62
Quintana was outstanding on Saturday, holding the Reds scoreless into the seventh inning on his way to his 100th career win. He scattered five hits and two walks while striking out six, leading the game with two outs in the seventh at 100 pitches. The 35-year-old southpaw ends the day with a 4.09 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 118/59 K/BB ratio across 152 innings. He’ll take on the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.
  • NYM Second Baseman #1
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters McNeil will miss at least 4-6 weeks, which ostensibly ends his season, unless they somehow manage to advance deep into the postseason. However, he should be fully recovered heading into the offseason. It’s the worst-case scenario outcome for New York as additional testing revealed the fracture after McNeil was hit by a pitch during Friday’s game agains the Reds. His absence creates additional at-bats for veteran Jose Iglesias and could also pave the way for a top prospect like Luisangel Acuña to get a promotion to the big leagues.
  • NYM Second Baseman #1
No surprise here after McNeil was lifted from Friday’s game after suffering a right wrist contusion. It’ll be Jose Iglesias at second base on Saturday afternoon in his place. The 32-year-old veteran will presumably undergo some additional testing this weekend to determine the extent of the injury. There should be an additional update on his status in the coming days. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • NYM Center Fielder #83
Gilbert has gone deep seven times over his last 15 games as he continues to build a compelling case to earn a late-season debut with the Mets. The 23-year-old was shipped to New York as the centerpiece of last year’s Justin Verlander trade and is on the doorstep of making it to the majors.
