  • NYY Center Fielder #70
Yankees optioned OF Duke Ellis to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Jon Berti is ready to come off the IL, so that’s probably the countermove here, not a Jasson Domínguez callup. Ellis went 1-for-1 with a steak in three appearances for the Yankees.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #45
Gerrit Cole allowed two unearned runs over six innings in a loss to the Cubs on Sunday.
Cole gave up just three hits with one walk, and he struck out seven. Unfortunately an error by Gleyber Torres in the first inning kept an inning alive, and a two-run single by Isaac Paredes was enough for Cole to pick up the loss. Cole didn’t appear to have any issues with the calf cramp that he dealt with Monday, and he remains an excellent fantasy option going forward.
  • NYY Third Baseman #19
Jon Berti (calf) could rejoin the Yankees from the 60-day injured list on Monday.
Berti will have a chance to return to the lineup for the first time since the end of May because of his left calf strain. The 34-year-old will be a bench option for the Yankees whenever he returns, and isn’t likely to be a significant fantasy contributor.
  • NYY Third Baseman #19
Jon Berti homered, doubled and walked Saturday in his latest appearance for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Berti, on the IL with a calf strain, is 9-for-17 in four games for the RailRiders after going 4-for-19 in seven games with Double-A Somerset. He’s ready to rejoin the Yankees if they want to make room for him. That’d probably involve sending down Duke Ellis.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #56
Although he gave up three hits and walked two, Lou Trivino pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
It’s Trivino’s first scoreless appearance in four tries since he was moved up to Triple-A on his rehab assignment. His velocity is down about two mph after Tommy John, and it doesn’t seem very likely that he’ll help the Yankees this month.
  • NYY Center Fielder #13
Jazz Chisholm Jr. singled and stole a base on Saturday, leading the Yankees to a 2-0 victory over the Cubs.
Chisholm is up to a career-high 34 thefts this season, with a dozen of those coming in just 28 contests since arriving in New York back at the trade deadline. His game-changing speed has brought a dynamic element to the Yankees’ lineup and it has him poised to enter next season as a consensus early-round pick in all fantasy drafts.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #65
Nestor Cortes tossed 4 1/3 shutout innings on Saturday to pick up a win in relief against the Cubs.
Cortes came on in relief to piggyback starter Clarke Schmidt at Wrigley Field and wound up twirling three additional scoreless frames after recording the final out of the sixth inning. The 29-year-old southpaw remained in the contest to protect a two-run lead in the final frame, with Luke Weaver likely unavailable after needing 25 pitches to record a save on Friday night, and needed just an additional nine pitches to slam the door against the heart of Chicago’s lineup. He finished with three strikeouts and only allowed one baserunner. He figures to piggyback next week against the Red Sox with either Luis Gil or Schmidt again.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #36
Clarke Schmidt fired 4 2/3 shutout innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Cubs.
Schmidt looked sharp in his return to New York’s starting rotation, limiting Chicago’s lineup to just four hits and one walks before turning things over to Nestor Cortes to record the final out of the fifth inning. He finished with two strikeouts and threw 75 pitches (44 strikes). The Yankees’ pitching plans remain a bit of a mystery at the moment, but he’s tentatively slated to face the Red Sox on Thursday at Yankee Stadium as either a traditional starter or bulk reliever.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #36
Yankees activated RHP Clarke Schmidt from the 60-day injured list.
Schmidt will take the ball on Saturday at Wrigley Field for his first start in the big league since May 26. The 28-year-old right-hander was in the midst of a true breakthrough campaign, compiling a stellar 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67/20 K/BB ratio across 60 2/3 innings (11 starts) prior to hitting the injured list back in late May with a right lat strain. There might be some initial workload restrictions, but Schmidt is worthy of a roster spot in all fantasy formats down the home stretch.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #71
Yankees activated RHP Ian Hamilton from the 60-day injured list.
Hamilton returns to New York’s high-leverage mix ahead of Saturday’s showdown against the Cubs at Wrigley Field following a nearly three-month absence recovering from a right lat strain.
