Luis Castillo

Luis Castillo will undergo testing on his hamstring Monday.

Castillo left Sunday’s game with a left hamstring strain. The right-hander looked to be hobbled considerably, but the testing will obviously determine the severity of the injury. It would be surprising if Castillo was able to make his next scheduled start against the Rangers next week.

Luke Raley drove in two runs and went 2-for-4 in a blowout win over the Cardinals on Sunday.

Raley doubled twice and drew a walk. The 29-year-old has been excellent since the start of August, and should continue to hit in the middle of the Seattle order for the rest of the year against right-handed pitching.

Jorge Polanco hit a two-run homer in a blowout win over the Cardinals on Sunday.

Polanco blasted a two-run homer off Steven Matz to give Seattle a 9-2 lead. The infielder has gone deep 14 times with 39 RBI with a lackluster slash of .204/.296/.347. The Mariners will have to make a decision as to whether they want to pick up his $10 million option for 2025.

Randy Arozarena hit a two-run homer in a 10-4 win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Arozarena is up to 19 homers on the year, and four of those have come in 37 games with the Mariners since the deadline deal. He also singled, but it’s still been a middling — at best — season with a slash of .221/.332/.396 over over 485 at-bats.

Luis Castillo left Sunday’s game against the Cardinals with a left hamstring strain.

Castillo twisted his hamstring while throwing a pitch in the fourth inning and immediately left the contest. This will all but assuredly require a stint on the injured list, and it’s possible that this was the last pitch Castillo threw in 2024. If/when Castillo does hit the shelf, it could be Emerson Hancock that takes his spot in the rotation.

Luis Castillo left Sunday’s game against the Cardinals with an injury. He allowed two runs in three-plus innings before exiting.

Castillo clearly twisted his ankle on a pitch and immediately exited the game with a trainer. The right-hander will likely be evaluated, but is in real danger of missing time — potentially the rest of the season. Trent Thornton has entered in Castillo’s place.

Victor Robles was scratched from Sunday’s lineup against the Cardinals.

Robles was set to hit at the top of the lineup, but the outfielder will get Sunday off instead. Consider the 27-year-old day-to-day at this point with a chance to return Tuesday against the Padres. Justin Turner is now in the lineup with Luke Raley moving from first base to right field.

Victor Robles, who didn’t play Saturday after getting hit on the elbow by a pitch Friday, is back in right field for Sunday’s game.

Robles is leading off against the Cardinals. Mitch Haniger returns to the bench.

Logan Gilbert allowed two runs in eight innings and took the loss against the Cardinals on Saturday.

Gilbert gave up two hits, walked one and struck out 10. It was an excellent outing from Gilbert, but the Mariners couldn’t support him with any offense on Saturday. He was cruising until he hit Jordan Walker and allowed a two-run home run to Pedro Pages in the eighth inning. Gilbert hasn’t won a start since August 10th. He’s 7-11 with a 3.15 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 191 strikeouts in 185 2/3 innings on the year. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rangers at home next week.

Victor Robles (elbow) is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Cardinals.

It doesn’t come as much of a shock to see Robles getting some extra time off after making a precautionary exit from Friday’s game after being hit on the left elbow, which was fortunately covered by a pad at the time, during an eighth-inning plate appearance. The 27-year-old has been exceptionally streaky since arriving in Seattle, and currently finds himself in the midst of a sizzling-hot stretch, batting .400 (20-for-50) with one homers and six steals over his last 15 contests.
