For the first time since 2002, the U.S. Open features an American in both the women’s and men’s singles finals.
Sixth seed Jessica Pegula eyes her first Grand Slam title after becoming, at age 30, the oldest U.S. woman to make her first Slam semifinal and final. Pegula has already beaten top seed Iga Swiatek. Next is No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka, the winner of the last two Australian Open titles who was runner-up at the 2023 U.S. Open.
For the men, Taylor Fritz beat Frances Tiafoe in the first all-American men’s major semifinal since the 2005 U.S. Open. Fritz is the first American man to make a major final since Andy Roddick at 2009 Wimbledon. He gets top seed Jannik Sinner.
Both defending U.S. Open singles champions — Coco Gauff and Novak Djokovic — were bounced before the quarterfinals.
It’s the first time since 2002 that none of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer will have won a Grand Slam in a calendar year. Djokovic had his earliest Grand Slam defeat since the 2017 Australian Open.

2024 U.S. Open men’s singles draw, bracket
No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner, the Australian Open champion, bids to become the second Italian to win multiple Grand Slams in singles and the first to do so in the Open Era (since 1968).
Taylor Fritz, the 12th seeds, bids to become the first American man to win a Grand Slam singles title since Andy Roddick at the 2003 U.S. Open.
Sinner and Fritz are 1-1 head-to-head with Sinner taking the more recent meeting at Indian Wells last year.
2024 U.S. Open women’s singles draw, bracket
No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka faces No. 6 Jessica Pegula in the women’s final.
Sabalenka, a two-time Australian Open champion, eyes her first U.S. Open title after squandering a set lead to Coco Gauff in the 2023 final. She is 26-1 in the two hard-court Grand Slams since the start of 2023.
Pegula, 30, bids to become the second-oldest first-time women’s Grand Slam winner in the modern era (Flavia Pennetta, 2015 U.S. Open). She can also become the first woman to beat the top two seeds en route to a Slam title since Svetlana Kuznetsova at the 2009 French Open (Serena Williams, Dinara Safina).
