Blankenhorn was designated for assignment Friday after the Nationals claimed Michael Rucker, and Blankenhorn went unclaimed on waivers.

WAS Starting Pitcher #46

Patrick Corbin was tagged for seven runs in six innings Sunday in a loss to the Pirates.

Joey Bart, Andrew McCutchen and Michael A. Taylor all took him deep. Corbin had won three starts in a row, and the loss today was his first since he fell to 2-12 on Aug. 5. Even so, he’s now back alone atop the NL in losses. Teammate Jake Irvin and the out-of-action Dakota Hudson have 12 defeats apiece.

Luis García Jr. went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts for a second straight day Sunday.

It’s been a breakthrough season for García, but it looked even better a couple of weeks ago. He’s 7-for-40 with no RBI in his last 13 games, dropping his OPS from .796 to .769.

Andres Chaparro drove in three runs including a two-run homer in a comeback win over the Pirates on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader.

Chaparro tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh with a two-run blast off of Ryan Borucki. The infielder drove in a run earlier in the contest with a single off Mitch Keller, and he’s driven in 13 runs in just 22 games with the Nationals. Chaparro was not considered a top prospect coming into the year, but he’s played well enough that he could be considered for a spot on the Nationals to open the 2025 campaign.

WAS Relief Pitcher #67

Kyle Finnegan worked the final inning to get a save against the Pirates on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader.

Finnegan threw 14-of-19 pitches for strikes, and he picked up a pair of strikeouts while not allowing a hit. It’s one of the better outings for the 33-year-old as of late, as the right-hander has been able to procure saves — 36 of them, to be exact — but given up runs in many of those outings. Finnegan should again be the stopper for the Nationals in 2025, barring a trade in the offseason.

WAS Starting Pitcher #70

Mitchell Parker allowed four runs in 3 1/3 innings but picked up no decision in the second game of a doubleheader versus the Pirates on Saturday.

Parker not only gave up six hits, but he walked four against five strikeouts. He allowed two runs to score in the first, another in the third and one more in the fourth before exiting. Parker has shown some decent stuff in his rookie campaign, but there’s been some bitter with the better. This counts as bitter. He’ll attempt to rebound next weekend against the Marlins.

Jacob Young is out of the Nationals lineup for the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Pirates.

Dylan Crews is starting in center for the first time. Young had started 32 games in a row for the Nationals, and he’s made an appearance in 80 straight games.

WAS Right Fielder #3

Dylan Crews went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, two RBI and also stole two bases, leading the Nationals to a 5-3 victory over the Pirates in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Crews responded to being dropped to seventh in the lineup for the first time in over a week by crushing a 404-foot solo shot to left-center field in the second inning off Pirates starter Luis Ortiz for his third big league round-tripper. He also tacked on another insurance run a couple frames later when he scalded a 109.6 mph double off the left-field wall with two outs in the sixth inning. He also walked and stole two bases in the ninth inning as well, just for good measure. The 22-year-old top prospect is holding his own at the highest level so far with a robust .883 OPS with three homers and five steals in 10 games.

WAS Relief Pitcher #67

Kyle Finnegan allowed one run in the ninth inning on Saturday against the Nationals, but still managed to record his 35th save of the season.

Finnegan got the call to protect a three-run lead in the final frame and made things interesting by giving up a run-scoring single to Nick Gonzales with one out in the frame before walking Rowdy Tellez to load the bases with only one out. Just when things started looking bleak, he managed to wriggle out of the jam and preserve the victory by coaxing a game-ending double-play ball from ensuing batter Bryan De La Cruz. It hasn’t always been pretty, but Finnegan has been one of the better closers in the fantasy landscape this season, converting 35 of his 40 save opportunities.

WAS Starting Pitcher #74

DJ Herz struck out five over five hitless innings on Saturday in a win over the Pirates.

Herz drew the starting assignment for the front-end of Saturday’s doubleheader and kept Pittsburgh hitless through five frames, thanks to his on-point fastball/change-up combo. Unfortunately, he handed out three free passes and needed a whopping 87 pitches (53) strikes to complete those five innings. Given his immense strikeout potential, Herz remains a viable streaming option for fantasy managers, especially when he faces the free-falling Marlins on Thursday in his next outing.
